India's U-19 Women's Cricket Team Triumphs in ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, Receives INR 5 Crore Prize

After the historic victory of India’s U-19 Women’s cricket team in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced a significant prize money reward. The young Women in Blue, under the captaincy of Shafali Verma, secured a remarkable seven-wicket win over England in the final, claiming their maiden U-19 World Cup title.

Jay Shah took to Twitter to declare a prize money of INR 5 crore for the victorious Indian U-19 Women’s Team. This generous reward comes as recognition of their exceptional achievement in winning the prestigious ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Shah’s announcement reflects the growing prominence of women’s cricket in India, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s development. He expressed his delight at the team’s success and stated, “Women’s Cricket in India is on the upswing, and the World Cup triumph has taken the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher. I am delighted to announce INR 5 crore for the entire team and support staff as prize money. This is surely a path-breaking year.”

In the final showdown against England, the Indian U-19 bowlers showcased their brilliance, restricting their opponents to a mere 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Titas Sadhu set the tone early, claiming the wicket of Liberty Heap in the very first over. England struggled to recover and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Sadhu, along with Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra, bagged two wickets each, while Shafali Verma, Sonam Yadav, and Mannat Kashyap contributed with a wicket each.

India’s chase of 69 runs presented no significant hurdles, and they achieved the target comfortably in 14 overs, albeit losing three wickets along the way. Soumya Tiwari remained unbeaten on 24 runs off 37 balls, including three boundaries, and played a crucial role in steering India to victory.

Titas Sadhu, who played a pivotal role with her outstanding spell of four overs, conceding just six runs, was awarded the Player of the Match. England’s Grace Scrivens was honored with the Player of the Tournament award for her exceptional performances throughout the tournament.

At the post-match presentation, the Indian skipper, Shafali Verma, expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the tremendous team effort that led to their success. She gave credit to the coaching and support staff for their unwavering support and motivation. She also praised her teammates for their consistent backing and camaraderie throughout the tournament.
